Reasons to Wait on Fantasy Quaterbacks

Many people think that a Quarterback should be the centerpiece of your team and should be your primary point scorer. I’m here to tell you that’s not the case.  Quarterbacks are so deep in the NFL fantasy wise and only a select few are worth early round picks.  This is not the case for the other positions like WR and RB.  These positions only have few players that can reel in big points and carry your team.  The basic scoring system for Fantasy Football also favors these positions more.  In standard scoring, 10 receiving or rushing yards is 1 point, while 25 passing yards in 1 point.  TD’s are the same value (6 pts), but it is much easier for a running back or receiver to get you 10 pts from 100 yds than a quarterback getting you ten points by throwing for 250 yds.

The only Quarterbacks worth drafting early are the ones that can add rushing yards and TD’s (Cam Newton) or the ones that throw for an insane amount of TD’s (Peyton Manning).  The others are all pretty similar in their points per week and can be targeted later in the draft. Guys like Phillip Rivers, Tony Romo, Andrew Luck, and Ben Roethlisberger will probably be available in later rounds and are not terrible picks if the rest of your roster is solid with producing fantasy players you picked earlier instead.
